The wonders of seeing original paintings created over the 9 day art event are still fond memories. As has been the case in past years, Maui’s weather allowed an outdoor experience that both the artists and the community joined in celebration of art. With the Kick Off Paint Out at the Lahaina Harbor and the Art Sale in the Pioneer Inn Courtyard, the inspirational ‘mood’ was set for a week of viewing inspirational artworks. The Afternoon Paint Out at Montage Kapalua Bay brought out art lovers from throughout the island and resulted in showcasing captivating paintings of our island, Kapalua Bay, ocean and landscape scenes, and our people. The Quick Draw, held this year at the Royal Lahaina Resort beach and property areas, was the most popular public event. Watching the artists create a painting in 2-4 hours keeps our interest and frequently moves us to purchase a painting to take home and cherish in our own environments.
This group of created over 200 original paintings throughout the 9 day art event. Each submitted 4 paintings for judging to compete for the 20 awards. Jean Stern, Associate Director UCI IMCA, indicated that the 14th year of judging was his toughest. We have to agree. The 96 paintings submitted for judging, a subset of the 200+ paintings created during the event, were truly the best in 14 years. The following are images of the award winning paintings.
